The mines of Långban

Långban is internationally recognised for its unique diversity of minerals and complex geological history. More than 270 minerals have been discovered in the old mine area; 70 of them were discovered here for the first time. Around a dozen minerals are completely unique to Långban. A new mineral, Långbanshyttanite, was approved as recently as 2011. The area is thus one of the richest sources of minerals on the entire planet.
