
Geological data
SGU's produce and publish geological data in various subject areas. The information can be used in your own GIS programs, for example for analyses, searches and combinations with other data. We offer data in several ways, for download in various formats or via API and Web Map Service (WMS).
Geological information is important for both business and public activities. Here you will find out more about how SGU produces and provides geological data, in which forms and under which license conditions. Our data products can be found in a number of categories. Bedrock – geological data
Information about the bedrock is used as a basis for prospecting for ores, industrial minerals and rocks suitable for, for example, aggregate material for road and railway construction. The information is also an important basis for planning buildings and facilities, geothermal energy extraction and in the environmental field.
Ores and minerals – geological data
SGUs geological data products about ores and minerals contain information about Sweden's mineral and rock deposits, boreholes and drill cores, mineral deposits of national interest and mineral permits from the Swedish Mining Agency's Mineral Rights Register, where you can see applied for and granted exploitation concessions and exploration permits.
Geophysics – geological data
Geological data from geophysical surveys are used for specific problem settings such as; bedrock conditions before an underground construction, mapping of natural resources, risk analysis of landslides, detection of groundwater magazines and mapping of contaminated sites.

Mineral Resources Information Office
The Mineral Resources Information Office is located in Malå, Västerbotten, and is a branch of SGU. The Office is responsible for archiving and assisting with material for exploration. The Office is also responsible for general information about minerals.
Staff at the Mineral Resources Information Office are on hand to answer questions and assist with geological information.

Open data
SGU provides a number of map services and geological data as open geodata. These products are free of charge and may be used and published freely.
SGU has discontinued the manual deliveries of geological data that were previously handled by our Customer service. Anyone can now download or access data via API directly here from the website. However, Customer service can, together with SGU's geological expertise, offer service for those who need help finding the right data and guidance on what it can be used for.
