YEAR-END REFLECTION ON ITP308 AND LOOKING AHEAD

2024 has been a good year for ITP308, filled with milestones, collaborations, and new insights into the mining sector. As we conclude another successful chapter, we reflect on this year’s highlights and share what lies ahead in 2025.

This year marked a major milestone for ITP308 as we held the final training session with Group 9 of 9. This bittersweet moment symbolized the end of a chapter that began in 2018 and has defined much of our work since. Before the program concludes, we’re preparing for the final regional phase in Mombasa, Kenya, in March 2025. We look forward to meeting Group 9 participants, exploring Kenya’s mining industry, and discussing the challenges and opportunities faced by our partners.

In 2024, we also hosted two regional conferences with Groups 7 and 8 in Kitwe, Zambia, and Kigali, Rwanda, marking the successful completion of these program rounds. Both weeks featured engaging study visits to mines and processing facilities and inspiring presentations by participating organizations, sharing updates on their change projects and mining developments.

We’re truly grateful to all our colleagues for making these events memorable. A special thanks to ZEMA, MSD, and RMB for your invaluable support in organizing the regional conferences and to Mattias Fackel for his expert contributions to training and planning.

As the program approaches its conclusion, we’ve started evaluation interviews with focal points and the management of participating organizations. These aim to assess the program’s impact, explore its benefits, and gather feedback to refine future initiatives.

Looking ahead, ITP308’s grand finale is scheduled for May 2025. Together with Sida, focal points, supervisors, trainers from the Swedish EPA and Luleå University of Technology, and other relevant stakeholders, we’ll visit northern Sweden’s mining cluster. This trip will highlight Sweden’s mining value chain and cutting-edge research, providing a fitting conclusion to the program. Stay tuned for details early next year!

Until then, we want to thank all our colleagues and financial partners for their dedication and support. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
