THANK YOU FOR THE JOURNEY – ITP308 COMES TO AN END
Six years, over 70 change projects, and an African network of changemakers. ITP308 concludes with a heartfelt thank you – and a glimpse into the future.
After six inspiring years, the ITP308 “Mine Water and Mine Waste Management” programme has reached its final chapter. Between May 17 and 28, we gathered for a memorable closing event in northern Sweden, together with colleagues and partners who have shared the journey with us.
From the research labs at Luleå University of Technology to the vast mining landscapes of Aitik, the deep underground environments of the LKAB mine in Kiruna, and the peaceful beauty of Storforsen and the Malå area, the trip offered moments of reflection, learning, and celebration. During our final conference in Malå, we shared results, exchanged stories, and looked ahead together. One thing is certain: we all play a crucial role in shaping the future of responsible mining and in transforming mineral wealth into sustainable development for our countries.
What began in 2018 as a capacity development initiative has grown into something much more: a network of professionals working towards a more just and inclusive mining sector. Through over 70 change projects, countless workshops, and friendships formed across continents, we have learned from each other and grown together. It’s an experience that we, the Swedish Team, will treasure for a long time to come.
To all of you who have contributed your time, expertise, and commitment – thank you. It has been a privilege to work alongside you and your organisations. Though ITP308 is coming to an end, the connections we’ve built and the knowledge we’ve shared will continue to make an impact – for us, for the people of our countries, for the environment, and for the future of mining.
Now it’s time for the Swedish Team to wind down and head into the summer holiday season. But as always – we might just meet again in a not-too-distant future...
All the best from,
Annika
