ALTERNATIVE 1
You chose to bring the mine to court.
You sigh wearily, because you know that the right thing to do is to bring the matter to the court, no matter how much extra work this will result in. However, you get the feeling that your supervisor will not agree with this decision. Therefore, you go straight to discuss the matter with the ESCA lawyers, without first informing him. Together with the lawyers, you gather evidence and prepare to bring the case before the court.
The court procedure is time- and resource consuming, and you have to endure several angry calls from your supervisor questioning your decision to make the “small misunderstanding” into a legal issue that has now also gathered much attention from the national- and international medias.
As you finally meet with the mining company in the courtroom, you are stunned as you hear their defence. They are able to show documentation signed by your very own supervisor that gives them permission to “start early” on the river diversion. Upon inspection of these documents, the ESCA lawyers declare them to be fraudulent, and closer investigation show that your supervisor, together with a few other accomplices at ESCA, had conned the mining company to sign a false agreement and to pay a fee that had ultimately been going straight into their own pockets.
The police search for your supervisor and the other accomplices, whom have abruptly tried to leave the country as the evidence against them had been laid out. They are eventually caught at an international airport, and brought back to justice in Pangora. They are sentenced to jail for many years.
The mining company is pronounced to be not guilty by the court.
You have barely wrapped your head around these new developments before you are called to the office of the director general of ESCA herself. She tells you that she is very pleased with your actions to battle corruption, even against your own supervisor.
“That is the kind of leaders we need in this organisation!” she declares proudly.
You are promptly promoted to replace your own superior at ESCA! You happily accept the offer.
