Mount Kaisepakte in the Caledonides

Welcome to the Swedish mountain range - the very result of continents moving back and forth through time.

400 million years ago the ancient continents Baltica and Laurentia collided with each other. A mountain range as high as the present Himalaya was formed, and the ocean between the two continents was closed. The displacement zone between the Precambrian bedrock and the nappes can be seen clearly at the slope of mount Kaisepakte, as well as in many other places along the mountain range.
