Welcome to SGU's Map Services!
Map Services include our map viewers and the Map Generator for downloading PDF maps.
Map Generator
The Map Generator enable you to download your own PDF maps showing Sweden's bedrock, Quaternary deposits, groundwater, marine geology, till geochemistry and geophysics.
Map viewers
Our map viewers section is designed to offer easy access to some of the information available in our databases. Many of these services also provide an overview of what additional information you can order from us. When using our map viewers, which are free of charge, you navigate via digital maps and select the geological information you are interested in.
For the best results
To ensure optimum functioning of our map viewers, you should switch off any popup blocker you may have installed on your computer. Another option is to change some of the settings in your popup blocker.

Mineral and bedrock resources database
The mineral and bedrock resources database contains information concerning mineral, bedrock and hydrocarbon resources in Sweden. The database includes information on minor occurrences as well as deposits where metals, industrial minerals or bedrock have been or are being exploited economically. The amount and quality of information on each deposit in the database is highly variable. The following information is present for all deposits:
- name
- position (RT90)
- type of deposit
- commodity
- economic status
- literature references
At the present time the database comprises information on 11,500 deposits and is continuously updated. The present map viewer shows only a selection of information from the database.

Swedish ore deposit database
The Swedish ore deposit database contains information on the 260 largest metallic ores and mineralisations in Sweden. The database is the Swedish contribution to the Fennoscandian ore deposit database (FODD), a joint project between the Geological Surveys of Norway (NGU), Sweden (SGU), Finland (GTK) and Russia (VSEGEI and SC Mineral) with the purpose to create a common ore database for the Fennoscandian Shield.
The database contains information on the location of the deposits, the geology and mineralogy, present status, mining activites, grade and tonnages and referenses to the information.

Ground geophysics
Areas measured with ground geophysical methods for prospecting purposes
This metadatabase contains information about survey areas explored for prospecting purposes with
different types of geophysical instruments. The database contains information about
both analogue and digital data at SGU. Beside the geographical definitions, the metabase
contains the following information:
The name of the exploration area, the total amount of measuring points in the area,
exploration method, year of the survey, name of the datafile, report number (if available) and
comments.
The measurements have been made with the following methods:
- magnetometer
- electrical depth sounding
- gravimeter
- slingram 18 kHz, slingram 3.6 kHz
- induced polarization sounding using a modified Schlumberge configuration (2-electrode RP, IP, SP)
- induced polarization sounding with Wenner configuration (4-electrode RP, IP, SP)
- VLF measurements with GRB in England as transmitter and VLF measurements with JXZ in Norway as transmitter
