Geochemical U-Pb zircon geochronology of granitic and syenitoid rocks across the southern part of the Sveconorwegian orogen

This report presents radiometric ages and short descriptions of the bedrock from three different localities within the crystalline basement of south-western Sweden.

SGU-rapport 2012:14.

The data have been collected within the bedrock mapping programme of the Geological Survey of Sweden. Part of the analytical work has been carried out in close collaboration with the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS).

The bedrock localities investigated in this report have formed parts of an about 1 billion years old mountain chain that once covered the southern Scandinavian peninsula. Rocks within this part of the Precambrian shield area have been severely displaced and are partly strongly reworked. The large scale tectonic reconfiguration of crustal scale bedrock units, and the in part deep subduction of crust, has had fundamental bearing on the mineralogical and structural character of the bedrock. These are factors that govern the technical properties of the bedrock, and thereby the value of the bedrock for societal use, for example, the quality of aggregate for road construction and concrete production.
