Mineral Resources Information Office
The Mineral Resources Information Office (MINKO) is a regional office within the Geological Survey of Sweden that is located in Malå, northern Sweden. Its commission is to store and supply exploration-related information from Sweden.
Malå is situated in the western part of the Skellefte District, with numerous deposits of base metals and gold.

MINKO primarily serves as a one-stop information office for exploration and mineral resources for the whole of Sweden. The office maintains large archives and databases containing exploration data collected by previous government-funded activity, as well as by private exploration companies.
The Swedish National Drill Core archive that contains more than 4.0 million meters of drill core from mineral exploration all over Sweden is located in Malå and managed by MINKO. Visitors have access to drill cores of interest as well as facilities for core logging, cutting and storage.
Other data available at MINKO include exploration reports, geological maps and field-notes, airborne geophysics, ground geophysics, basal till geochemistry as well as the Swedish uranium archive.
In addition to digital and hard copy data from exploration, MINKO has online access to public data from the regional mapping programmes at SGU. Scanned files or hardcopies of reports and maps are in most cases available for a nominal charge or may be borrowed.
The data is available to the mineral exploration industry, private prospectors as well as researchers and the general public.
In order to increase the service to customers and to make SGU’s data more available, digitizing of the large amount of analogue material stored in the MINKO archives is ongoing.
Opening hours
The office is open 8.00–16.30 (May–August 8.00–16.00).
